How we work

We’re an environmental charity, with over 200 local groups, a branch in every county and 55,000 members, and supporters – including more than 2,000 affiliated parish councils.

Our local knowledge and national profile means CPRE is effective in tackling both the specific issues that really matter to our members and the public, as well as the wider challenges the countryside faces.

Our members are united in their love for England’s landscapes and rural communities, and stand up for the countryside, so it can continue to sustain, enchant and inspire ,future generations.

The area covered by Avonside Branch of CPRE is bounded to the north by the Severn Valley, the east by the Cotswold escarpment, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), the Mendip Hills to the south, another AONB, and in the west by the banks of the River Severn and the coastal strip from Portishead to Weston-Super-Mare. The name derives from the former county of Avon which is now made up of the four Unitary Authorities, South Gloucestershire, Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset ,and the city of Bristol.

The Branch is run by an Executive Committee and is divided into Districts, one for each of the authorities, each with its own committee, except Bristol which is divided between South Gloucestershire and North Somerset Districts.
